TWI has several facilities for Laser welding a variety of materials; current systems available are listed below:

High Power Yb Fibre Laser

  • 7kW IPG Photonics Yb fibre laser with large heavy duty and high accuracy robots
  • Dual process capability offering 2 x 3.5kW simultaneous processing

Nd:YAG Lasers

  • Trumpf lamp-pumped 4kW and 3kW laser sources
  • GSI JK 1002 super-modulated laser
  • Integrated processing cells
  • 7 and 6- axis robotic manipulation
  • Twin-spot wedling capability
  • Laser based vison seam tracking and adaptive control

CO2 Lasers

  • Trumpf 2kW highly focusable CO2 laser with a 5 axis gantry system
  • 2kW PRC laser with a Huffman 5 axis gantry and vision system

Both CO2 lasers can also be used for Laser Direct Metal Deposition.
