TWI's mission is to deliver world-class services in joining materials, engineering and allied technologies to meet the needs of a global membership and its associated community. For many years, the development of non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques has been a major part of TWI's business.
TWI Technology Centre (Wales) was set up, with support from regional initiatives (through the Welsh Assembly Government and Welsh European Funding Office) to provide expertise in the area of advanced NDT, complementing the facilities located at TWI's headquarters in Cambridge.

Significant investment in equipment and staff gives TWI Members access to unrivalled facilities available through a single organisation. This has the advantage of giving our customers the opportunity to investigate alternative methods of inspection that may not have previously been considered.
Activities at the Centre include development of advanced inspection technologies, research into applications of conventional and novel inspection methods, and practical inspection work. Consultancy services, such as Level III support, trouble-shooting, advice on applications and procedure development/approval are also available from the Centre. Validation of newly developed technologies and procedures can be provided by The NDT Validation Centre.
There are two technology transfer programmes for small and medium-sized engineering manufacturing companies (SMEs) in the Objective 1 regions of Wales:
Joining Forces Wales is helping firms achieve sustainable growth by becoming more profitable and competitive. Free, expert help is provided so that companies can readily exploit innovation and best practice to improve product design and manufacturing methods.
NDT 3 provides free, in-depth technical support and consultancy in non-destructive testing. It covers all NDT methods and engineering materials and is helping all sectors of the engineering industry.
TWI Technology Centre (Wales) is part of the TWI Group.
